A timeless, homemade chocolate cake that brings back warm memories and big smiles. Moist, rich, and topped with a silky cocoa frosting — this is the kind of dessert that never goes out of style. 🧁 Ingredients For the Cake: • 1 ¾ cups (220g) all-purpose flour • ¾ cup (65g) unsweetened cocoa powder • 1 ½ tsp baking powder • 1 ½ tsp baking soda • ½ tsp salt • 2 large eggs • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar • ½ cup (100g) brown sugar • ½ cup (120ml) vegetable oil • 1 cup (240ml) buttermilk (or milk + 1 tbsp vinegar) • 1 tsp vanilla extract • 1 cup (240ml) hot coffee or hot water (for rich flavor and moisture) For the Old-Fashioned Chocolate Frosting: • ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter • ½ cup (45g) unsweetened cocoa powder • 2 cups (250g) powdered sugar • ¼ cup (60ml) milk (more if needed) • 1 tsp vanilla extract • Pinch of salt 👩‍🍳 Instructions Make the Cake: 1 Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch (20 cm) round cake pans or one 9x13 inch (23x33 cm) pan. 2 In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. 3 In a separate bowl, beat eggs, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until well combined. 4 Add oil, buttermilk, and vanilla. Mix until smooth. 5 Gradually mix in the dry ingredients. 6 Slowly stir in the hot coffee or water (the batter will be thin — that’s good!). 7 Pour into the prepared pan(s) and bake for 30–35 minutes (round pans) or 35–40 minutes (9x13 pan), or until a toothpick comes out clean. 8 Let cool completely before frosting. Make the Frosting: 1 Melt butter in a saucepan or microwave. Stir in cocoa powder until smooth. 2 Add powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and salt. Beat until fluffy and spreadable. Add more milk if needed. 3 Frost the cooled cake generously. Smooth with a spatula or swirl for a rustic look. 🍰 Serving Suggestions: • Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a glass of cold milk. • Sprinkle with chocolate shaving
