snap needs reforms
snap doesn't need to be eliminated just reformed. I know people that legitimately need the food stamps to get by. But there needs to be an overhaul of the system. I had foodstamps for a few months after my deployment to Iraq, the reason I had them was because I was trying to report someone getting foodstamps on my son. They were claiming he lived with them, even though he lived with me. I actually didn't qualify but because my last paycheck from the government, before I went back to work was for only a week, so it looked like I made below min. wage. It took me three months to get off of them, even though for three months I sent them my pay stubs that showed I made $900 a week. So I do know about what you can buy with foodstamps. I also used to work in a convenience store and could always tell the people that were going to use an EBT card. They were the ones that would come to the counter with $30 or more of chips, snack cakes, candy bars and bottles of pop. Which even if they bought those things at the grocery store would be maybe half the cost. The other problem is people selling their EBT cards for half price to use the money for drugs or for things like hair and nails. I had a good friend who if she had $100 worth of foodstamps she would sell them for $50 so she could buy weed, then in a day or so would call me to bring her food because her and her son hadn't ate in two days. So there needs to be some changes, 1) You should have to show your ID to make sure it matches the name on the card, which would cut down on selling the cards for cash. 2) They need to restrict them to where no candy or soda can be bought with them, and only be able to be used at convenience stores for items that are staples. Those two things alone would save the program a hefty some of money, and be a better source of helping feed people that really need it.
