Deandre Ayton got emotional receiving the Community Assist Award

Deandre Ayton was visibly emotional when the Lakers surprised him with the NBA Cares Bob Lanier Community Assist Award for November, recognizing his community work in Jamaica and Los Angeles. In July, Ayton and the Ayton Family Foundation reopened the Cedar Spring Community Center in St. Elizabeth Parish (his mother’s hometown), turning it into a hub for education, health, and recreation. After Hurricane Melissa, he committed $100,000 toward relief and activated the same center as an emergency shelter and aid distribution hub.
