Gracie Saved My Life

A friend of mine saved this kitten from being killed by 2 dogs. She already had several cats and asked if I would take her in. My 31 year old son had recently died of a heart attack and I was really depressed. I was so depressed that I didn't want to live. It was a struggle just to get up in the mornings. I had never had an indoor cat before but I said yes. I named her Gracie because I felt that God had sent this little kitten to me. we took her to the Vet and they said she was only about 4 weeks old. She needed so much care. Taking care of her gave me purpose for my life. I felt my heart open up again. She was my constant companion and even slept on my hip at night. She's about 7 years old now and still gives me so much joy and love. I'm still here because of her and am thankful for her every day! Lisa Boyd #HowWeMet

The Shelter Dog Who Loved the Sun

I first saw it at an animal rescue center. I had only intended to volunteer, helping with cleaning cages and walking the dogs. In the small backyard garden of the shelter, sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting dappled patterns on the ground. In the corner, a dog sat quietly on the grass, eyes wary and lonely. The staff told me it had been abandoned multiple times and was cautious around humans, though it longed for affection. I knelt down and spoke to it softly. It slowly lifted its head and hesitantly approached, nudging my hand with its nose. At that moment, I felt a subtle but firm bond of trust. The staff suggested spending time with it to let it adjust to people. So every day, I visited the shelter, tossing a ball in the garden, or sitting on a bench to stroke its fur, letting it feel safe. A few days later, I decided to adopt it. At home, it cautiously explored every corner, sniffing each door and carpet, gradually familiarizing itself with the new space. On weekends, we walked along the river on paths lined with cobblestones, sometimes wandering into small groves to chase leaves blown by the wind. Its coat became shiny and soft, its body strong, and its personality playful. Now, every morning it jumps onto the bed, nudging me awake with its damp nose; at sunset, it suns itself on the windowsill before curling up on the sofa. From a lonely dog in the rescue center to a confident companion at home, it has found its sunlight — and it has brought warmth, patience, and joy into my life. #HowWeMet

I found this baby in my engine🥺

I drove 40+ miles to work on the highway. On my lunch break, I thought I heard a chirping/meowing when I drove to pick up food, but it stopped when I stopped the engine, so I thought it was just a bird. On my way home, I stopped at the toll on the highway, and I realized when I rolled the window down that there was definitely a kitten in my engine. I pulled over, and on the passenger side, in the wheel well, there were two little blue eyes in a puff of smoke staring back terrified. A stranger pulled over to help and actually got him out. He was TOTALLY FINE. No burns, no injuries, just traumatized. The funny thing is, literally 4 weeks prior, I got a new tuxedo kitten who was about this age. I already had 3 other cats, but I wanted a playmate for my new tuxedo boy. Well, the car distribution system granted my wish! I'm so in love with this little void!!!! #HowWeMet #Cats #CatLovers

I found a cat on my walk

A few days ago, I went on my usual walk with my roommate and we came across a young cat in rough shape. It was covered in fleas, starving, and its paw pads looked burnt. We gave it a flea bath and combed it for nearly an hour, which helped a lot, but its skin was still very red and its fur thin. I was worried it might have mange or ringworm, so I kept it separated from my other cats until we could get it to the vet. Fast forward to now — this little one is doing so much better! After a vet visit, proper treatment, and some good food, it’s finally gaining weight and looking more comfortable. Its coat is starting to grow back, and the scratching has almost completely stopped. The first two pictures are from when we first found it, and the rest are from today. I can’t believe the transformation in just a few days — such a fighter! #Cats #CatRescue #CatOwners #CatLovers #HowWeMet

Sometimes you get the dog you need. This is Ozzy.

#HowWeMet A few months earlier I had lost my best friend Jax a black lab mix another story. I went in to the shelter said I wasn't getting a dog and told them that I just wanted to look. I knew I didn't want another dog that looked like Jax and Ozzy didn't look like Jax. Look at that smile and those ears who wouldn't fall for him. He was almost a year old born sometime in October. He has been with me a year and keep me motivated to keep moving as I am going thru some health issues and have an active job. Jax would break up fights and Ozzy would jump in the middle of one and join in if I'd let him. Don't make me pick a favorite pet they were all special. Ozzy is the one I need at this time and I love him. I ask to see him next day I saw him and adopted him. Had to wait a couple of days so they could have him fixed at vet.

Gentle Waiting at the Rescue Center

One day, I visited an animal rescue center to volunteer. I only planned to help clean cages and spend time with the cats. In the corner of the room, a cat lay quietly in a cage, eyes wary and lonely, barely acknowledging anyone. The staff told me it had been abandoned multiple times and didn’t trust people easily. I knelt by the cage, speaking softly, and it cautiously lifted its head to observe me. A few seconds later, it gingerly reached a paw to touch my hand. In that instant, I felt a small, delicate bond of trust. I decided to adopt it and brought it home. At first, it was extremely cautious, sniffing every corner before moving and keeping its distance at night. I spent every day playing with it, speaking gently, feeding it nutritious meals at set times, and helping it establish a routine. Gradually, it began to jump onto the windowsill to bask in the sun and even started brushing against my hands while I worked. Over time, its confidence grew, and it began to purr and seek affection. A few months later, its fur became soft and glossy, and its body strong and healthy. Now, it loves lounging on the windowsill, basking in the sunlight, or curling up on the sofa next to me. When I’m tired, it jumps onto my lap and purrs gently, soothing me; when I’m happy, it rolls and stretches beside me as if sharing the joy. This cat, once alone and waiting in a cage, has become an indispensable, gentle companion in my life. It has taught me patience, trust, and the little joys of daily life. #HowWeMet
