I have long believed that honesty is the bedrock of a free people. In 1776, our founders signed their names to bold words and accepted the consequences. They did not borrow another man’s thoughts and call them their own. They stood accountable before the world.
Today, I rise in defense of my longtime friend, 1776 Patriot. When he publishes his work, it is the result of study, discipline, and conviction. Those words are not gathered from the labor of others and disguised. They are earned. To copy them and claim authorship is not a harmless act. It is a breach of honor.
Plagiarism steals more than sentences. It steals time, effort, and credibility. A republic cannot endure on borrowed integrity. If citizens grow careless with truth, the character of the nation weakens.
The spirit of 1776 was courage joined with responsibility. Let every writer do the same. If you draw from another, give credit plainly. If you speak, speak your own mind. And if you harvest praise, be certain you first planted the field.
