paulcarol+FollowMule deer turned me into a real hunter Grew up hunting big woods whitetails in Eastern forests - tracking through endless hardwoods was my passion. When I moved to Montana, I honestly looked down on mule deer. Saw them casually grazing by the river like livestock and thought they'd be boring compared to my crafty Eastern bucks. Boy was I wrong. First season hunting muleys completely changed me as a hunter. These aren't your backyard deer - they migrate 50+ miles, deal with mountain lions daily, and vanish into terrain that'll test everything you've got. No tree stands or trail cams here, just boots, glass, and pure hunting instinct. Now when I see whitetails, I barely glance their way. Mule deer hunting gets back to what hunting should be - raw, challenging, and earned. Anyone else make the switch from whitetails to muleys? #hunting #muledeerhunting #whitetailhunting #Outdoors 7413Share
mmoore+FollowHow long do deer live without hunters? 😮Just learned the oldest wild whitetail on record lived to 24 years old - that's ancient in deer years! Most wild deer only live a few years due to predators, traffic, disease, and hunting pressure. Makes me wonder how many would reach old age without all those threats.🤔 #hunting #deerfacts #wildlife #nature23011541Share
lolson+FollowWhy Northern New England is underrated for huntersJust moved to NH and honestly blown away by how hunter-friendly it is up here! 🦌 No draw systems (except moose), your license includes tags, and here's the crazy part - you can hunt anywhere that's not posted. Most big landowners don't even post because they get tax breaks for keeping land open! Yeah the deer density isn't like down south, but these northern bucks are MASSIVE. Plus I can hunt Maine, NH, and Vermont all for under $500 total. Even as a non-resident, Maine is only $150. Been living near Boston for work and driving up weekends. Best of both worlds - decent job market but incredible hunting access. The tougher hunting just makes it more rewarding when you connect. Anyone else hunting this region? The lack of red tape is refreshing compared to other states. #Outdoors #hunting #newenglandhunting #newhampshire #maine #publiclandhunting128Share
paulcarol+FollowWhere would you buy hunting land if you could? If I could buy hunting land anywhere, I’d go with western Oklahoma near Elk City or down around Lindsay in the south-central part. Solid deer numbers, room to shoot without a range, and great bonus hunting—dove, hogs, and coyotes. Curious where you guys would pick and why? #hunting #DeerHunting #HuntingLand #Oklahoma3213Share

paulcarol+FollowThis public land hunter tried to steal my deer after I shot itPicture this: I'm set up perfectly in my favorite spot, hour before sunrise. Then a UTV comes blazing through, ruining everything. But it gets worse. As I'm packing up, a nice 3-point walks out. Clean shoulder shot, saw him stumble and run toward where that UTV went. Minutes later, I hear rapid semi-auto fire. Found the guy standing over MY deer - now riddled with gut shots. When I politely mentioned I'd shot it first, he squared up and started yelling it was his kill. The broken leg and my bullet hole on the opposite side told a different story. I just congratulated him and walked away laughing. Enjoyed watching him try to clean those gut shots. Got a bigger buck in the same spot the next day anyway. Sometimes the best revenge is just letting karma handle things, you know? #Hunting #publicland #deerhunting #deerseason11042Share
