I Ran Into a “500-Year-Old Archangel” Today — And It Shows Exactly What the Streets Are Doing to People One of the rare times I walked during the day, I ran into a girl I haven’t seen in years. Mid-40s, hazel eyes, freckled, beautiful. And completely gone inside. In her mind, she’s 500 years old and used to be an archangel. Used to be. Now she says she “gave up her rank” and is trying to be normal again. But she came with a warning: “They’re coming.” I asked who they were. Over and over. She couldn’t answer. Or wouldn’t. “Wouldn’t understand,” she told me. I tried to record her—just to capture her story. She freaked. “You know I can’t talk if you’re doing that.” So I put my phone away. Gave her a cigarette. Gave her something to eat. Because here’s the reality: even archangels get hungry when they’re living on the edge of the world. She talks about her daughters. How many? “Infinite.” “Don’t know.” Somewhere buried under the delusions, she probably really does have kids. And here’s where I stand with her: I give her a polite nod every time. Maybe she is who she says she is. Maybe I can’t see it. And with people like her, you don’t tell them it’s not real — they wouldn’t tolerate it, and it would only tear them apart. That’s the tightrope you walk with the ones who live in their own worlds. You look at her—normal, healthy-looking, could be anybody’s coworker, sister, friend—and then you see what the streets, the trauma, the untreated illness have done. It’s like watching someone drift between worlds and losing their grip on both. All I can do is listen. Sit with her for a few minutes. Be the only person that day who doesn’t treat her like a ghost. #CrazyOrJustHuman #AngelEncounter #SeeingAngels
