Last night I was home alone when Mittens suddenly went wild—yowling, clawing at me, bolting to the basement door and back like he’d completely lost it. At first I thought he was just being dramatic, but he wouldn’t let up. Finally, I gave in and followed him downstairs. That’s when the smell hit me—gas. Turns out a pipe had been leaking for who knows how long. I called emergency services right away and got out of the house. The fire department later told me that if I’d gone to bed without noticing, I might not have woken up. Mittens smelled the danger before I did.
