๐จ ARREST MADE NEARLY 4 YEARS AFTER GRETCHEN FLEMING VANISHED โ HUMAN REMAINS, MURDER CHARGES, AND A COMMUNITY THAT NEVER GAVE UP ๐จ
Parkersburg, West Virginia โ After nearly four years of searching, heartbreak, and unanswered questions, authorities say there has finally been a major break in the disappearance and death of 27-year-old Gretchen Fleming.
Fleming vanished in the early morning hours of Dec. 4, 2022, after investigators say she left the My Way Lounge with 58-year-old Preston D. Pierce โ the man police quickly identified as the last known person to see her alive.
โ ๏ธ One of the earliest red flags?
๐ Gretchenโs purse and personal belongings were left behind at the bar.
For years:
๐ family members searched tirelessly
๐ volunteers covered woods and rural areas
๐ flyers spread across West Virginia
๐ investigators chased down tips hoping for answers
Even as the case faded from headlines, authorities say the investigation never stopped.
๐ November 2024 โ FBI agents and Parkersburg police executed a search warrant tied to the investigation.
๐ September 2025 โ Human remains were discovered in Wirt County.
๐ Genetic testing later confirmed the remains belonged to Gretchen Fleming.
Now, a Wood County grand jury has indicted Preston D. Pierce on:
๐ first-degree murder
๐ felony murder
๐ kidnapping
๐ concealment of a deceased human body
After the indictment, U.S. Marshals arrested Pierce in Asheville, North Carolina.
He is now expected to be extradited back to West Virginia to face prosecution.
๐ Authorities also revealed Gretchenโs father and grandmother both died before seeing an arrest made in the case.
Now, nearly four years after Gretchen vanished, the investigation has officially shifted from a missing persons case to a homicide prosecution.
