Couple Who Tried to Sell Their Baby for $1,000 and Beer Has Been Sentenced
A disturbing case out of Rogers, Arkansas has reached sentencing after a young couple attempted to sell their infant child for $1,000 and a six-pack of beer. Darien Urban, 22, was sentenced to three years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections, followed by a three-year suspended sentence after pleading guilty to attempted acceptance of compensation for adoption.
His partner, Shalene Ehlers, 21, received six years of state-supervised probation, with the possibility of having her record cleared if she successfully completes the terms. Both parents are now permanently banned from having any contact with the child.
Authorities say the incident occurred in September 2024 at a campground, where the couple initially offered the baby in exchange for beer before later writing up a handwritten agreement. The case has sparked outrage nationwide and raised serious concerns about child welfare and exploitation.
