Don’t tell me that schizophrenia diagnosed people need to be institutionalized! My son, who died in a motorcycle accident, was diagnosed with schizophrenia. It took a while for me to understand what was wrong with him, even though I had worked with schizophrenic people in the past. With counseling and medication my son turned back into his old self, hanging out with his friends again, going on rides with our motorcycles, playing softball and in a dart league, etc….So DON’T TELL ME SCHIZOPHRENICS NEED TO BE INSTITUTIONALIZED!!! I know firsthand how with therapy and medication it can turn someone’s life around for the positive! He was just 33 when he died and I’m so happy he was in such a good place mentally and really enjoyed the last few years of his life. RIP my son 💕.

The stereotype of the violent schizophrenic is a myth; most people with schizophrenia are not violent. The actual risk is modest, much higher with substance abuse, and the biggest takeaway is that individuals with schizophrenia are disproportionately likely to be the victims, not the perpetrators, of violence.

They don’t. With proper help meaning the right psych and medication this should be controllable. But it is continued lifetime care. So no. Schizophrenics don’t have to be permanently institutionalized. This reasoning would be largely to the portrayals from back in day day in old movies. And a lack of understanding. Medicine has advanced enough now to an understanding of how this complicated machine we call the brain works.

Im sorry for your loss of your son. May he rest in peace and thank you for speaking out. Im glad he responded well to treatment and could enjoy life again. Some people are quick to judge and lack empathy and understanding . They are the ones who are challenging, to say the least.

Im sorry for your loss too ..but the homeless schizophrenics need to be institutionalized..they dont take their meds..because they dont think they have a problem and end up in the streets...even if they have family.

My Condolences... I'm So Happy He Was Able To Live His Life With Medication, And Therapy , Because Like Your Son My Beloved Sister Got It In Her Last Year Of High School Back In The 80s, And We To Didn't Know What WS Happening, And There Wasn't Back Then What They Have Today... Unfortunately Meds, And Therapy Didn't Help Her, And She Too Has Since Past On From Being Murdered. When They Refuse To Take Their Meds, And Therapy Yes That's When They've Gotta Be Hospitalized, Because They'll Hurt Someone, Or Get Hurt, And Yes You're Correct When They're On Meds, And Therapy They're Brand New 🙏🥰
