As a Waitress, Tips Are Shrinking—and So Is My Sense of Securit

Meagan ... I'm curious ...what are your thoughts on getting rid of tips entirely and just going to "living wage" options (and I don't have a definition of what that means in the real world)? I've never had a job where I rely on tips so I'm asking. As a side note: I'm gonna guess with new 'no tax on tips,' some will use the logic "they are trying to save money too" + "my tip goes further for you now that you don't pay taxes on it" (at least up to 25k is my understanding), so that may be further justification for folks to reduce the tip amount. I'm not sure I have enough understanding of all this, but it would seem to me if I'm paying a price for a meal + I'm leaving a tip ... if that meal increase is equivalent to what that cost totals, then I'd rather not hassle with a tip.

The Gratuity added to a restaurant bill has become synonymous with the experience of eating out. Allow me to place that info perspective. if you had an on hand staff or even just a quick dinner party at your house where there's catering, are you paying for the food alone or are you paying the staff to not have to do all those silly things like: preparing the food, serving it, maintaining the diners during the meal and then cleaning up afterwards. Do you tip the catering company? unless you never want that company back of course you do. The Gratuity is utilized for acknowledging good service and hard work. The average wage for a wait person is at Best laughable and barely covers basic expenses, not even remotely close to being able to pay rent. Point being, if someone works hard for you and your family while you're out show them that you appreciate them.

Service workers should be tipped and do tip, not in bar because I don’t go there. However, I don’t believe that service workers should not demand tips or give a person if they don’t. She had no right or reason to do what she did or even ask him out because he didn’t tip or try to embarrass him; she see where she landed.

perhaps if many of them were not so obnoxious and less self entitled that might change. putting tip jars on fast food counters is over the top. If this continues they will be replaced by AI as they have done in places like Japan.

everyone is under the misconception you don't pay taxes on tips and you get away higher pay now. That's my thought
